I was visiting Hong Kong for a Disney Character Performers Audition and at the time I had a job in Mainland China. Hong Kong is a City in China but they do their own thing , they are a little different from Mainland China.
In Mainland China, I noticed they are in their own zone, a bit closed in and very few people speak English but that will change soon because they are recruiting English teachers from native countries to teach the language.
But did you know that Hong Kong is part of China but Mainland China nationals need a visa to go to Hong Kong?, I thought that was weird, I mean Hong Kong is a City in China.
In Mainland China they are not so interested in what the rest of the world is doing, they have their own thing going and they embrace that and I think it’s very beautiful.
The life style is simple, less pacy and the People in Mainland China are very cultured.
The cost of Living is okay, stuff is very cheap, food , trips, hotel, and that’s the thrill about Mainland China.
Most sites and apps you know are blocked in Mainland China including Google, instagram, Facebook, Twitter etc, so you have to rely on People and maps for information or you can use bing.com at least that’s not blocked. I advice that you use bing translator to communicate, it’s easy translates English to Chinese accurately.
In Mainland China they Use The Yuan/RMB currency and it’s slightly higher than the Hong Kong dollar, its a very small difference but hey!
In Hong Kong on the other Hand , life there is very Pacy, People are on the Rush, getting things done and on about business.
Almost every one I came across Speaks English, which is great!
Hong Kong is a tourist attraction because its a very famous city. Hong Kong is open to the world , there are a lot of foreigners and I could simply compare Hong Kong to New York City. The city is alive and vibrant. In Hong Kong They Use the Hong Kong Dollar- don't worry about this, it’s easy to to count money or understand currency anywhere in the world.
The cost of living is Hong Kong is High, Everything! Food, taxis, flights, hotels! Oh hotels! When I visited Hong Kong I thought I could book a hotel once I have arrived and that was the biggest mistake, I almost slept at Mcdonalds! Hotels are fully booked because too many People visit Hong Kong daily so I would advice that you book the hotel before you arrive.
You need to know exactly where you are going because you are likely to be stopped by the airport security if you do not have an address of where you are going. Don’t just rock up!
I arrived at 12 midnight but only got a hotel at 5am , all those hours I had been looking for a hotel but were fully booked or way over my budget! Yes pocket up! You need money to enjoy your stay in Hong Kong!
Take a bus instead of a cab! Cabs will hurt you pocket! No jokes , their prices are ridiculous. It better to take a bus, you will save a lot of money.
Good news!, you can access google and all the other famous sites and apps in Hong Kong they are not blocked.
Ask locals for directions, or anything, both in Mainland China and Hong Kong, People are very friendly.
Both Mainland China and Hong Kong are awesome places to visit, tourists attractions and so many things to explore.
